"I'm over here Danielle," Jack bellowed from the kitchen table not looking up from his corrospance. He tapped a finger on a filled folder. It had certainaly taken her long enough.

Dani walked into the kitchen, seeming almost pale currently. "Um, dad...I think we may have a problem...that it took to just now to hit me." She said.

"Vlad...was my backer. I don't have any other contacts to get the papers to say my fake mother is dead." Dani said, shifting uncomfortably. He wasn't...his usual self lately. Understandable, but still a bit concerning.

"I see. Well then. Lucky for you, you're not the only one who can keep secrets," jack said flatly handing over the folder, "Here are papers legally keeping you here and having you be an offical Fenton. Read and memorize the story we're telling anyone who asks about you staying. Oh and get Danny and Jazz to memorise it as well. The school system and local goverment has already been handle."

Dani took the folder, staring with wide eyes. She looked between Jack and the folder, opening it. "You...wha...how'd did you get these?" She asked.

Dryly Jack drawled, "Well Danielle, you're not the only one with contracts with shady people."

A sharp bitter smile, "Hell I was best friends with one for *decades*."

Dani felt relief, but now there was that gnawing guilt. She knew it was better to hide it. If Vlad knew Jack knew, then...

Dani looked away. "Thank you dad." She said. "I'm...really happy I can stay now." She said, hugging the files tightly.

Dani was silent for a few moments and then looked at him sadly. "I'm sorry abo-" She paused for a moment, "about Vlad." She said quietly. "H-he fooled me too." She said.

His eyebrows shot up and Jack asked, "So you wren't aware thast they were the same person?"

Dani paused for a moment. She could tell the truth...

But if Vlad found out she lied, he could use that against her. She was the one to get the help that stopped him. He may just do it in spite.

She bowed her head. "I knew..." She said quietly. "I'm sorry...I didn't tell you, but I knew, I knew if he found out you knew, he would kill you without a second thought. I thought I could stop his plots, since he would stay hidden...I was just wrong." She said, staring at the floor.

"But Vlad was the one to create me. At first, he was my father. Until I found out the truth that I really was nothing, but a stepping stone in his experiment. A means to an end." She said.

Jack took a deep breath and ran a hand over his head frustrated, "Dani, I'm not that easy to kill. Couldn't you have trusted me to be able to protect myself? Is there anything other *person* gunning for our family that you know about and haven't seen fit to tell me or Maddie about?"

"I know you can handle yourself, but Vlad...he's strong. He was really strong and I didn't know how well you would be able to handle yourself against him. I mean, I've only seen you fight once, but compared to Technus, Vlad is in a whole other league!" Dani said, looking up at him sadly. "I...wasn't sure if you could take him if he went all out. He wouldn't want word to get to Maddie and probably wouldn't even pause for his usual taunts or banter. When he's angry...he's very scary." She said, looking down again.

Dani paused. "Well, just the normal ghosts out to take over the world, but you guys kind of already know about that." She said, trying to sound joking. She didn't like this mood at all.

Dani fell silent for several moments. "Yeah, pretty much." She said quietly and turned away, heading for the stairs. She paused, looking back. "Though...just...just don't let the Vlad thing change you or anything. It hurts, but at least you have all of us, right?" She asked, smiling slightly.
