The Reality Gems are four jewels, each about two inches wide, with the power to reshape reality. They used to be set in the Reality Gauntlet, which enabled them to work in concert much more powerfully than they can individually, but the gauntlet itself has been destroyed. The gems need to be handled to be activated, but it is very possible to do so accidentally, with random results. (They also get very hot when activated. If you drop the gem as a result, it may affect whatever it was dropped on. If you keep hold of it, it may affect you. This can usually be undone by removing the gem from the subject, but this is inconsistent-sometimes the gem is actively used to undo its own effect, and sometimes its sphere of influence isn't limited to what it's in direct contact with-so use your own judgement.)
The Gem of Life is red and square. It can animate inanimate objects. They are controllable if the wielder knows what s/he's doing; otherwise, they will move independently. (Even when controlled, it seems to be more a matter of issuing telepathic commands than constant puppet-like control.) The object's shape will usually remain the same unless the Gem of Form is also employed, but sometimes features suggestive of living creatures will be added. Examples seen on the show:
- Made a couple of bazookas wrap around their owners and pinion their arms.
- Gave a locomotive awesome bat wings.
- Made a drum kit rearrange (though not otherwise reshape) itself into a giant drum-spider, complete with webs.
- Accidental use: brought the Space Shuttle to life. With nasty sharp pointy teeth.
The Gem of Form is yellow and diamond/rhombus-shaped. It can turn things into other things. Examples seen on the show:
- Made seatbelts spring out of bleacher benches and lock the audience down.
- Accidental use: transformed an entire Gothapalooza full of disaffected teens into happy pastel teddy bears (and the area of Nevada desert they were partying in into a rolling meadowland with a smiling sun and trees and mushrooms).
In combination, the Gems of Life and Form:
- Turned a couple of train tank cars into robot statues, then animated them into killer robots.
- Shaped a cloud into a happy snow giant, then made it plummet out of the sky, burying a couple of pursuers in snow.
The Gem of Fantasy is blue and circular. It can manifest one's, well, fantasies. It was only used once sans gauntlet, and accidentally transformed three geeks at San Diego Comic-Con into the supervillains they were cosplaying (total transformation, including their minds).
The fourth gem (no fancy name) is orange and triangular. It was the Reality Gauntlet's power source. The gauntlet is gone, but it is still presumably a strong power source, if anyone can harness it...
In case anyone cares, given the range of colours and the hardness necessary for the gems to have survived the gauntlet's destruction, I suspect they're all varieties of corundum (ruby and assorted sapphires).
