In which our heroes find a wondrous sword of great antiquity

Through the secret door, the passage sloped downwards. Soon it appeared that we were below the level of the river. Upon finding a locked door, Karlos carefully unlocked it and threw it open.

Before us was a room with pink and silver marbled walls, like the ones in the room upstairs. Pretty, and yet slightly tacky at the same time. I would have expected a bit more of Loremasters I think. Although I do not know any so perhaps they are devoid of proper aesthetic sensibilities. In the centre of the room was a basalt slab with the shape of a sword in the surface. Although there was no sign of any sword, there was a small pickaxe on top of the basalt rock.

Tremorian rushed forward to pick up the axe (of course!), and then suddenly we heard a clunking, grinding noise. As one, we froze in terror, wondering what could be happening to us next. One of the garish pink and silver walls slowly lowers in the corner, revealing another corridor.

As a side note, at this point Thyme decided to study the axe, and determined that there was no magic on it, however there was a preservation spell on the black rock to ensure that it survived. I would comment on the futility of doing this post factum, though as Tremorian is the one who picked it up I probably can’t fault Thymhe on this occasion.

We carefully proceeded down the new corridor, to find a rough hewn room (did they run out of pink and silver marble?), rectangular in shape. In the centre of this room was a column of ice, with a long sword frozen in the middle.

Tremorian used the pickaxe on the column of ice, and it shattered on the first blow. Thymhe took a moment to study it and ensure no magical traps were present, and then told Tremorian to grab it.

As soon as he picked it up, the sword started talking to Tremorian. It introduced itself as the Ice Blade, and upon some further questioning it confirmed that it is best suited to a warrior of physical might. The Fire Sword is for an arcane user, and the Wind Blade is more for one who uses a sword and yet also channels the power of the gods. So that is the one I would like to try out myself. Just have to find it I guess.

Apparently one of the major properties of the Ice Blade and the Fire Sword is their ability to make the wielders immune to magical heat and cold, and they suffer less than usual from non-magical heat and cold. The Wind Blade is different but we have not been informed how.

And so, we now of one of the fabled Narsaelkin - a somewhat unsettling prospect if one stops to think about it for too long. Now to find the others. Onwards ho!
