In which our heroes encounter underground creatures, and toffee makes its first appearance.

When I was woken to take final watch, those who had been on the watch before me said that they had heard some noises, but had not seen anything.

I was on last watch with Karlos, and we also heard some noises. It sounded like a faint scrabbling noise, perhaps something sharp on stone? Anyway, I could see nothing even with my Elven Eyes™, so Karlos had no hope.

After we had rested for about 8 or 9 hours all up, we set off again. We had only moved a little way forward when we came across a skull on a spear. Not a good sign. After a little discussion we decided to keep going, as our only other option was to go all the way back and then over the mountain.

However we had only taken a few steps when an arrow was shot at us! Not very sporting at all, as we couldn’t see whom it was. A very badly accented voice said ‘Wait’, and then we heard footsteps going away.

I decided we might as well do as we were told, and sat down until we were told otherwise. If there is any sign of attack I will be ready, but other than that I’m trying to avoid unnecessary conflict. We could hear enough to know that not all these creatures had left, and no doubt arrows would start flying if we went further.

While we were waiting, Dareama and I had a quiet discussion, and came up with a solution to a persistent problem. Dumping sugar into a pan, we heated it up and made toffee. Which was then given to Tremorian. Not only did he like it, but we are hopeful it is a way of shutting him up when we are trying to stop him from saying the wrong thing.

Anyway, eventually a group returned, and someone who spoke bad Erlini came forward. He was short , very unattractive, and had greyish green skin. Karlos made an idiot of himself by referring to them as Lugroki, but they were in actual fact Murlogi. In other words, goblins.

Tremorian offered them toffee (NOT what he was supposed to do with it!), a piece of which was accepted by one of the merlogi. The one who could speak to us said that we could pass through, on the condition that we get rid of the ‘non living’ things in the city.

Now, I wasn’t exactly expecting a city down here, under the mountain. But I have no doubt that these ‘non living’ things are yet more undead. We seem to find them wherever we go.

Of course we agree - as heroes, do we have any other option? And so we travelled with this strange little group until we started to hear battle noises. Walking through the tunnel, we arrived in an enormous space. There was a huge manufactured ceiling that looked to be about 100 feet high. Strangely, there was an area of light that was 500 metres in diameter.

The wall in the north was broken, and there were buildings to the south, including what appeared to be glass observation towers of some kind, very strange in appearance.

The sounds of battle were coming from the first building, and there were dead bodies strewn all around. Looks like this is where we go in then.

stupid things, adventuring
