In which our heroes decide to explore further

Tremorian lead the way, with me closely behind. I suppose that it makes sense that way as we are primarily melee fighters. And he is more able to handle damage than I as he wears heavier armour. So, down we went.

Upon descending the stairs we encountered some kind of foul undead. Zombies and skeletons I think. Dareama was able to make short work of them with some kind of holy spell she lobbed their way. Which was fortunate as I was quite badly injured, and she then turned her attentions to healing me.

With further exploration we found prison cells and a torture chamber, but they had not been used recently. We continued our progress, and after a few empty rooms we encountered an ogre. Needless to say, some fisticuffs ensued. But the ogre started it - it threw a huge rock at Tremorian as he entered the room.

The ogre proved to be a formidable opponent. It took the combined might of Tremorian and myself, hacking away with swords, plus the arcane and divine magics practiced by Thymhe and Dareama. But to the surprise of everyone - and I suspect himself too - it was Eldith who managed to claim the killing shot with a stunning piece of archery. He impaled his arrow through the eye of the ogre, thus earning himself the name Ogre-Slayer.

Dareama did complain about the unfairness of that, because she felt that she had contributed too. However Tremorian & I explained the rules to her - whoever gets the killing shot or blow or spell gets to claim the kill. Nice people acknowledge the help of others, but it is not obligatory. It is wise however, otherwise random villagers might expect you to take care of their ogre problems unaided at some point.

However, that is by the way. We collected some coin that had obviously been the ogre’s treasure horde. And there was a magical belt that we gave to Karlos - it allows the user to be more subtle once per week.

And then onwards, where we found merchants who had been taken prisoner. They informed us that they had been captured and interrogated by a man with black robes that had a flame red eye on the breast. This, in my opinion, does not bode well . . .

Freeing the merchants, we went back into an anti chamber that had two hidden doors. The first was a roo, with some barrels of salted meats and brandy, and an assortment of weapons and shields. The second room yielded weapons and cloaks and more provisions. All the shields and cloaks bear the symbol of the flaming red eye. Seeing them stirred a vague memory in me - I can’t recall much, but I think it is a symbol of the priests of Arnak, who serve the unlife.

I *knew* it did not bode well.

At this point, with civilians to protect and loaded down with our discoveries, we decided to return to Gemmel, report our findings, and have a good nights sleep.
