There's new wine bar going in on my side of town. I would be excited, how could more wine be a bad thing, except that it's also going to be a cigar shop.
I've tried really hard to like cigars. Really. But I don't. I don't mind mild ones and will smoke them if I'm around people who are also smoking, but that's mostly for the company.
I wouldn't begrudge anyone the chance to enjoy a cigar, unless I was doing something that was heavily dependent on the senses of taste and smell.
Like enjoying a glass of wine.
Even with the world's greatest air filtration system that this place must be installing, this still makes no sense. There's a reason cigars are traditionally paired with spirits or port. They have strong flavor profiles that will stand up to cigar smoke. I guess a monster Zin or some other California fruit Death Star would probably be O.K. But, a Rioja? A Rhone white? A well-balanced Cal. Cab.? In other words, wines for which I'd be willing to pay restaurant prices? Not so much.
