Today was kind of a long and terribly stressful day. Another post for that. Instead I'm going to talk about something cool I picked up yesterday.
I've been struggling with migraines for a while. It's pretty much managed at this point, I know the triggers, which are worse and which are easiest to trip, etc. Mostly we've been playing with the medication. I'd stuck to the pills for a while b/c they'd been working really well and I wasn't having migraines that stretched to the second day more often than not. There was a muscle relaxer debacle that took away the most effective med I'd ever had, on that medication I had literally 1 migraine a year, as opposed to one a month.
But my insurance company has decided it'd rather pay for imitrex than Amrix. Which is just hilarious when you look aat the numbers. AAAANYWAY. Once my muscle cramps really started acting up my doc offered to let me try an injectable and not only do those kick in by the time I'm disposing of it, it's so effective and quick at cutting out the pain, as long as I take care of myself, I rarely get a second day of problems.
My original trial was a needle injectable, but my prescription ended up being for an air injector, which is cool b/c I don't have to deal with a sharps disposable, but while the needle ones comes with with their own hard plastic case for protection, the air injectors (HYPOSPRAYS!!!) don't and they have a break off top part that not meant to be hyper secure. So I've been looking for a hard case (like the kind some large headphones or portable HDs use) so I could travel with them. The plus side of pills are that you don't have to worry about breakage!
On my last appointment I talked about how reluctant my insurance company was about filling the scrip and I was thinking about switching back to the pill because it was less hassle to fill and easier to travel with. He looked confused and realized that I'd never been given the starter kit for the sumavel. It comes with a discount card, a migraine journal, and adorable card with an USB sticking out of it for a video of how to use the injectable AND (the best part, though the discount card is freaking awesome and cuts out the insurance company bitching) A TRAVEL CASE!!! Now I can take two injections, plus a stash of pills I'd normally take during the process and a visual aid card in case I'm too incapacitated to do it myself. IT"S AWESOME AND PERFECT AND THE SIZE OF A LARGE SUNGLASSES CASE.

Because of the extreme effectiveness of the injectable solution, two is plenty to travel with unless it's an extreme issue. But my pharmacy is a national chain so worst case I can get a refill anywhere in the US.
