Technological win!

So when I first got this new PC I never got the new version of itunes to auto sync with my ipod. Say what you will, but for my purposes, auto sync really worked best. Now anyone who owns a PC and an iPod knows that connection and syncing is often a very harrowing experience. Personally I tend to save up my syncing so that I have as few connections as possible. Less connections, less likely for something to go wrong.

What I just discovered (and frankly I'm sure various problems of this kind are comon with the larger iPod models) is that during the erasing procedure (step 1 if you're syncing to a new iTunes library and omg do NOT GET ME STARTED on why apple makes changing main computers so hard) itunes freeeeezes. When I first tried this I took it as an 'OMG SOMETHING GOING WRONG' and I did not attempt it any more. I decided to try it again. Ever since I reinstalled certain things have been going smoother (my pocket PC phone now connects 99% of the time whereas before it was closer to 45% of the time, often requiring reboots all over to fix the problem, even after updating), this is not terribly surprising as sometimes an install of windows can go freaky deaky.

I also now own a Creative Zen which is my backup MP3 player for various reasons, I also have a secondary copy of all my music on another drive so I felt less worried that if something went wrong I would be stuck on some very boring car rides. This time I swallowed my fears and let it be frozen for several minutes, finally about 10 - 15 minutes in (maybe less, it felt like a long time) iTunes unfroze and the music started uploading. W00T! As I have about 45 gigs of data this will take about 100 minutes (yes I did the math based off the first 10 minutes of data) and so far I'm more than halfway through and it's showing no issues. The only last hurdle is disconnect and I've learned if you show a little patience there, all is well. YAY!

I AM still planning on writing up a compare/contrast of iPods vs the Creative Zen and Creative Stone. I hope by then someone is still interested. *G*

But really, this is most "YAY IPOD WORKING LIKE IT'S SUPPOSED TO!" because before a trip I really like to have my iTunes open for a few days organizing some playlists and adding new tracks (usually some new podfic and audiobooks) and then the night before just plug in and sync and charge.
