Things you could try:

squash soup (a little nutmeg in watered down butternut squash with lemon pepper)

patties made of ground walnuts and ground zuccini

I have a macrobiotic cookbook gathering dust that you could look through, if that would help.

acorn squash with stuffing and pecans. We had this at a retreat in Dallas once, and it was wonderful.

My standby lenten dinner in college, before they became enlightened about Vegan cooking, was a package of wheat thins and a can of V-8.

Baked apple for dessert (core an apple, stick it in a microwave safe bowl with a little brown sugar and cinnamon in the middle, cook until soft, good with cool whip).

Oatmeal cookies.

Will think about some more. But that's two or three days' worth.

Love you!

Also from me:

beets (Harvard beets, pickled beets, Russian beet potato salad sans beans)

kolokithera skorthalia (fried yellow sqaush with garlic sauce. Six cloves of garlic, four slices of sodden bread, a cup of olive oil, salt to taste, pungent).

Ask if you can have onion powder. It's like garlic powder, only, you know, onion.

Shrimp. Shrimp with skorthalia, shrimp with rice.

kalamari.

Kalamari with skorthalia. Kalamari with tomato sauce.

salt baked squid.

Baked potato with mashed avocado, lemon, and salt.

fried cornmeal mush slices with maple syrup

oatmeal with apple

fried shad roe with lemon.

Orzo with tomato and a can of octopus in su tinto

canned peanuts for cheap, quick protein

Ah. Rice with curry made with whatever veggies you can have and a handful of peanuts.

Okay, now I'm hungry. Love you! Sorry you're going through all this, but glad you've found ways to feel better.

A.

Ummm...toast?
Actually, looks like you are left with a starch fest; poatoes, rice, bread. What about veggie california rolls? (what i just ate for lunch) Avocado isn't on the list...

i am going to make those soon! I have the avocado and sushi rice and nori. actually i gave them a try last week with hilarious effect (used an entire tube of wasabi, ow).

And, I forgot to mention, but gluten is also bad. So... just rice then.

Are you on thyroid meds? If so, all you really need to do is not eat soy or take calcium/iron supplements within about six hours of taking your meds. Otherwise, eat as you usually do and your dosage will compensate for any other goitrogens you eat. Seriously, though, that list is OVERLY restrictive -- the only foods you need to consider are cruciferous veg (like broccoli, kale, etc.) -- and even then, meds will take care of the problem.

Signed,
Eat broccoli and kale obsessively and I've been right at 1-2 TSH for over 18 months. Oh, and I also eat tofu/soymilk but usually only at night, so no problem.

P.S. I'm not only a patient, I also ran Thyroid Awareness Month for six years...so beyond a doctor, I am your thyroid source of info!

awesome. I am pretty much going to say F all those restrictions. broccoli causes violent upset stomach in me (as do peppers for some reason, like doubled over in pain bad) so screw them. but everything else I will eat like there is no tomorrer.

I have pretty much cut out soy. It is supposed to be eaten sparingly anyway, not as filler in every processed food.

I'm on 75 mg of synthroid and I'm pretty sure I need to switch to armour or up the synthroid since I have these bouts of homicidal rage that won't go away. They are so un-me!

If I may ask, what is your TSH and when was the last time it was checked? Armour is a bit iffy as it is dessicated pig thyroid -- due to the fact that it comes from an actual pig (as opposed to a relatively stable synthetic form), your dosage may be slightly higher or lower each time you take it. It's not bad, per se, but endocrinologists aren't fans of Armour because of its unpredictability. That said, you may need some T3 to boost the T4 in Synthroid -- ask your doctor at your next blood check ( ... )

It was 12, then 9, then 4 at the last reading. I am currently gnawing my fingers off waiting for the last results.

I see an endo every six months which I don't think is enough. I think it should be every 3 but she doesn't agree. I get branded synthroid.

I would also say I veer wildly between very sad and very angry. I have Hashimoto's, if that helps. And, I'm definitely not losing weight and this winter I've been really tired/not wanting to get out of bed. I don't think I'm hyper, never have been, but it's possible.

I recently started taking selenium and evening primrose supplements and that seemed to be helping at first, but it's not. I may add L-tyrosine just for the hell of it.

I've been looking for some restrictive diet that would tell me to avoid leafy greens for YEARS.
