Ladies who brunch

Jun 08, 2008 17:26

Excellent, excellent Sunday so far!

Start with a sunny bike trip to the station to pick up FT, IHT and HBL, then put on some bossa nova, pop the croissants into the oven and have a long shower before the brunch guests arrive. Follow, sitting with 5 girl friends on blankets on the floor with the weekend editions spread in front of you, with copious amounts of hot croissants and baguettes, cheeses, marmalade and fig jam, fruit, café au lait, muesli, macarons and bellinis. Segue into multilingual girltalk over the New Yorker, Monocle and less high-brow mags. After the guests leave, climb back to bed (fresh sheets!) for a few more papers and a nap.

I don't know how much more content a girl can feel, really. It's not just the high that hosting terribly successful gathering can give to a somewhat socially challenged girl or the friends thing or even the bellinis, but an all-encompassing feel-good, i-love-my-life high. There's, too, the whole thing about, you know, a pretty cool job and a terrific apartment downtown and enough spare change for good food, books and shoes. If this Sunday was a dude, I'd probably try to shag it.

Syreeni tuoksuu
Puutalot hengittävät
Illan viileyttä

Tyttö pyörän selässä
ei voi olla onneton.
