Random thought...

Not so random really. I was having a conversation with a friend tonight; and the topic of online personas came up (in a roundabout sort of way). Am I getting old because I've outgrown this crap (or maybe I just never got that whole aspect of the Intarweb that seems so popular)? Sure, I used to troll the Christian chat rooms back in like '95, but ( Read more... )

lol. well, for me its a little different. i use the internet to write about the things i do because i can be as annonymous as i want, but for the msot part, the way i write is the way i talk, so yeah, i would say those things in person, but perhaps not to everyone... only a few.

how was that show the other night?
when i get some weed we gotta hang out! =)

Well, thanks for saying 'hella,' that dates you too. But, anyway, I've been missing you too. When you gonna be out next? I still go out from time to time. Tuesdays at Level (former Virus crew) is very cool. Same For Tuesday Fez. Keith's Tuesday gig at Ohm sounds cool cool too. Drop me a line and we'll fuck shit up (or something...).

I never got off on creating a different 'me' for my friends. I always thought one should never say something online one wouldn't say in person. It was weird because the person I was talking to seemed to actually think it was odd that I behaved the same way in person that I do online...

i say things online that i wouldn't say in person but only because writing is a different medium from speech. in other words, because writing is an outlet completely different from conversation it allows me to communicate with my friends in another way. (i wonder what someone who'd read my journal but never met me would think of me in person. would they be surprised?)

Mmm, a good point. In fact this entire post would probably have never come up in any face-to-face conversations. As you say, it's the nature of the medium.

What I was trying to refer to though was the idea of an entirely different persona online; for instance a woman saying to me, "I want to shag you till you scream like a little school-girl" when online, and then in person being very distant and even standoffish.

aha. has that happened? (^0^)

i guess i was thinking of online personas more in terms of live journal stuff than aim, etc.
