This is my, as yet empty, Yuletide letter. Ack! Assignments went out! I LOVE my assignment! I'm so giddy!! Stalking Mode: Activate!!!!
For anyone stalking me....
Dear Yulegoat,
We matched on one of my cheesy and fun little fandoms (or on the not-at-all cheesy and simply awesome T:SCC!). THank you for writing for me, Yulegoat!
Things I love:
-female characters
-women saving the day
-women saving themselves
-women's friendships with other women
-tropes! All the Tropes!!
-characters depicted with nuance and depth...warts and all
-characters who have a canon disability going about their lives like people with disabilities do...and not being avoided or sidelined
-thoughtful discussion or addressing of chosen family, adoption, how family is defined in a not-merely-biological way
-friendships
-cuddling
-CANON...I'm a total canon whore (my favorite stories slip tidily into the canon and add to it)
-hope in a post-apocalyptic environment
-missing scenes
-AUs that change but a single, small thing...and spin from there
-happy or hopeful endings, even if it's ambiguous hope
-realism without bleakness
-joy without Pollyanna-ish naivete
-character-driven stories (loves me some good, complex plot...but only if it serves the characters)
-characters coping with something really tough with perseverance, even if they're holding on by a thread
Things I'm not fond of:
-AUs that are wildly differentiated from the source (I'm not keen on the high school or coffee shop or alpha/omega or soulmate tropes, for example)
-gender swapping
-torture porn
-gratuitous violence or smut (I'm fine if they serve a purpose, but I'm not often a PWP person)
-magical realism beyond the show's parameters (so...in Early Edition, Gary gets tomorrow's paper today and Cat is kind of magical...but other than that, it's our world)
I'm pretty chill about most other things...I'm fine with ratings of G up to Mature, I'm all right with violence or sex so long as they serve the characters, I like multiple forms of storytelling (1st or 3rd person, present or past tense, linear or non-linear, stream of consciousness.)
I'm sure I will love what you write. Have fun, Yulegoat, and if you want to play to the optional details, do so if they nibble at you. If they don't...go for whatever ideas you were having.
Thank you!
Here are my specific requests (I was asked by someone who wanted to read what I'd put for my Optional Details).
Silk Stalkings
Rita Lee Lance, Chris Lorenzo
Optional Tags: Gen or pairing, Mature, Women Being Awesome
Optional Details: I'd love to read a typical 80s story dice/trope plot (pretending to be married in the suburbs OR temporarily blind/paralyzed OR The Hostage Situation OR chained together and running for their lives, OR stranded far from civilization and have to find a way home, or the like) attached to a story with Chris and Rita on a case out of touch with the department. (Any other characters as desired or needed, and "Mature" is listed just as my max preferred rating, though I'm fine with anything below that.)
The 4400
Diana Skouris, Marco Pacella, Maia Rutledge
Optional Details: I'd love to read a typical 80s story dice/trope plot (pretending to be married in the suburbs OR temporarily blind/paralyzed OR The Hostage Situation OR chained together and running for their lives, OR stranded far from civilization and have to find a way home (hey...with Marco's ability, this is a distinct possibility, if he can take people with him). The twist, of course, is that Maia can see what's going to happen...sometimes...in pieces. I'd also love to see more of what forms this idea of an unconventional family, how perception of family is seen through the lens of adoption in an otherwise-typical daily activity.
Early Edition
Toni Brigatti, Marissa Clark
Optional Details: I'd most love to see the ladies solve the problems of the day...if Gary weren't available and Marissa and Brigatti had to deal with the paper, that would be fun. They'd have to dodge Armstrong, of course.
I also love to read typical 80s story dice/trope plots (pretending to be married in the suburbs OR The Hostage Situation).
Gary's parents are always a joy. Up to you if it's set when Brigatti does or doesn't know about the paper. Brigatti finding out is always fun. I just love seeing competent women solve weird problems that are confusing, but, well, they're competent and they can do it.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
James Ellison, Savannah Weaver
In the days leading up to the war, who leads, and what do leaders or followers do? How do you prepare for the end of the world...and do you still grasp at the straws that might lead to a path that will circumvent the end?
Also...is Savannah a game-changer? She knew JohnHenry-Skynet when he was still young. What if John's position as the keystone has been supplanted by Catherine's maneuverings, placing Savannah in that position instead? "Donald, where's your trousers?"
Also, I ADORE Sarah...and while she's not on the list, it's TOTALLY FINE if she's there with James and/or Savannah...and it's also fine if she isn't; James is fully capable on his own....and I suspect Savannah will be also.
Have a great Yuletide, everyone!
