Yuletide Reveal

I'm finally getting around to my Yuletide reveal.

My request went out to a late pinch-hit, and, as a result, I got a delightful Silk Stalkings story, "Two Weeks in the 'Burbs", by Perpetual Motion/Perpetfic, where Chris and Rita PRETEND TO BE MARRIED IN THE SUBURBS!!! HEEE! I realized, well after I sent out my request, that this was what I was MOST hoping for, and so I am GIDDY with joy over it.

I got to write the Big Finish Sarah Jane audios. I started writing a story I plotted out and I wrote and wrote and it seemed just to PLOD along. About 2/3 of the way through, I suddenly realized how to do the story in a way that was less cumbersome, so I started over with a new story that covered a later period between the audios and SJA, and it just WROTE. Then I went back and managed to finish the plottier story in a way I was still pleased with!

"The Curse of Mandragora" for zephyrprince, filling in the rest of the Mandragora plot and the need to get Sarah and Josh down from the spaceship where they were trapped and losing air in the cliffhanger ending the audios. The title, of course, is one of the working titles for "Masque of Mandragora," which I re-watched to do this. Word count: 6159.

"Everything Ends", also for zephyrprince, fills in from the end of the above story to after "School Reunion" and near the beginning of SJA in the form of emails between Nat Redfern and Sarah. I'm even more pleased with how this turned out. Word count: 3509.

I was able to pick up two pinch hits, one for Birds of Prey (comic), and one for Henry IV, Part 1. I wrote like MAD for nearly 24 hours and am very pleased with how these two in particular turned out. I feel very fortunate that all three of my recipients responded very quickly and very positively. I sometimes wonder if the responses are earnest or courteous thanks for a gift...but these seemed in earnest.

"Flew the Coop", for rushin-doll, is a Barbara Gordon story with Babs as Oracle out on patrol...because everyone else is busy, including Helena, who is grading semester papers, where there are student bloopers that...might sound familiar to some of you. :-) I had a great deal of fun with this one, and even got recced a couple of times! Word count: 3376.

"Hear the Lady Sing in Welsh", for malo_malo, is a Hotspur and Kate story. This Hotspur and Kate are drawn both from H4p1 and the history I researched like a mad thing. I found out that the real Hotspur's wife (who was not named Kate), was from Wales, which makes the "Wouldst thou have they head broken? ...Then lie still and hear the lady sing in Welsh!" scene (which is totally my favorite in the play) even funnnier. Luckily, that scene is, like, everyone's favorite, including my recipient! So, when I based my ideas and characterization of Kate and Hotspur largely on that scene and one or two bits of historical information, I went the right direction. Yay! I had not expected to write dubcon, like, ever, but I'm so pleased with this story, and I'm thrilled to have had the chance to write it...I even got recced for this a couple of times! Word count: 1976.

In short: it was a great Yuletide, I got a delightful story that is exactly what I wanted, I am gratified with the f/b and recs and hits I got (especially in a Yuletide where the comment rate was much lower than it was in years past), I love what I got to learn researching my stories, and I love what I wrote!

YAY, Yuletide!
