A few months ago, we moved Elf into what had been our bedroom, then the bedroom of many boarders/friends, then Olive's room, then the guest room, then
sure_i_am's room. Ben stayed in what had been originally the nursery, painted so beautifully by
kirbyfest and
finabair. We got rid of scads of unneeded furniture. We got rid of the rickety bunk beds that were over 50 years old and got Ben a new headboard with a shallow bookcase.
When we did the original move, I was in favor of pulling up the carpet in Elf's new room due to the amount of abuse and staining on it, especially since most of the odor and staining was from Nasty Cat Pee. Elf wanted to keep the carpet. Husband was in favor of carpet also, and was willing to rent a carpet cleaner. I shrugged and said, "Okay, whatever."
Here we are, 3-4 months on, and the carpet has been YET MORE peeing due to my not-at-all-tidy daughter's penchant for leaving clothes and other handy targets all over the floor and under the bed and behind the bed. Ugh. She even left her suitcase unzipped under the bad and she doesn't "know HOW they managed to SQUEEZE in there to pee in the suitcase." ::eyeroll::
So, today, everything got moved out of the room again, and we pulled up the carpet.
The carpet is gone. The tackboard is gone. The tacks are gone. Initial scrubbing of cat-pee damage is done. Right hand sports five blisters (one burst while I was pulling up tacks...which explains why my palm was hurting...). I expect to have sore hands and wrists. But THE CARPET IS GONE.
Of course, there is an area where the finish on the floor is totally stripped and it will now soak up pee badly. But we can put down an area rug and hopefully the room will stay tidier.
Whew!
Oh, and bonus, the activity seems to have killed my headache (for now).
