The school year has been going well. I must admit that it's really nice not to be taking a class (I'm officially doing my "student teaching" for my LBS-I sp.ed. stuff, but it's really a practicum and there is VERY little work--just a project with goals, 5 lesson plans, and a pre- and post-assessment).
We have separated the kids into separate rooms. They were ready at the same time that it was time, and they're both happy. Both room shave been emptied and cleaned at least somewhat. Clothes and toys have been sorted through and 3 or 4 kitchen garbage bags given away to the Lutherans. We rearranged the furniture and had the kids tell us what they didn't want, and have gotten rid of 4 pieces of white girl's furniture. We broke down and got rid of the rickety bunkbeds that are from 1958-1962-ish. We got rid of a huge and awkward wood-frame massage table that was under the guest room beds. We got rid of the cat tree that we had been holding for a friend until she decided it wasn't moving with her. We got rid of our HUGE and AWKWARD 36" CRT TV in place of the 40" flatscreen we got from that same friend. Husband has packed up over 6 boxes of basement stuff. There is a box of books ready to go away, and a stack of books to be mailed off.
Ben has a new bed (well, new to us) with a simple and small bookcase and a box spring that
mtgat's daughter decided she didn't want. All the dark wood furniture is in his room.
Elf has the metal bunks with all the remaining white furniture.
There is now space to build and install the bookshelves that Husband has the wood for.
The kids have been ultra-busy with swimming (twice a week), TKD (three times a week...at red-black3, with black belt testing coming up in Jan/Feb), skating (Elf, once a week), Girl Scouts (Elf, once a week), and
SpiralScouts (both kids, every other week), as well as the weekly trips to the library and Papa's house and playdates and two camping trips so far this fall. They also have significant amounts of homework every night (which has been a real struggle as Ben fights with his brain to get things done). Their chores have, as a result, fallen rather by the wayside.
I've been plugging away at a huge story I'm writing, which is now up to 46,000 words (Bones, to the surprise of, exactly no one, I'm sure). I've also been looking into doctoral programs for after I finish my LBS-II Master's. I've even cooked a few times in the past couple of weeks. I'm sure there is more, but I'm blanking.
