As most have probably heard by now,
Elisabeth Sladen has died from cancer at age 63. She leaves behind her husband Brian Miller and daughter Sadie, who is not yet 30. She was far too young. There is
a memorial at DWM as well. I feel so bad for her friends and family and especially her daughter; Sadie's not yet even 30.
I feel terribly fortunate, as a fan, to have gotten SO MUCH more Sarah than we ever could have imagined. "School Reunion" and "Hello, Sarah Jane" and "ABERDEEN!" to Bubbleshock and name suggestions of "Harry and Alistair" for Luke, to K9 and the Brigadier and meeting Jo Grant-Jones, to floods of awesome fic as whole generations met Sarah and others of us met her all over again, to meetings again with Ten and Eleven. I couldn't have asked for more. And on top of all of that, I got to meet her at
Chicago TARDIS 2008 with my daughter. So, so lucky...and therefore sad now. And, along with so many of us right now, for all of us, I grieve with thee.
ETA: And I am so touched by the number of friends (including
tempertemper,
wiliqueen,
kevenn,
lefaym, and so many others who thought of me upon hearing the news) who've thought so kindly of me and/or checked in with me specifically because Sarah was SO my favorite companion all these years. You all are dear. Thank you.
ETA2: There is a lovely picture of
Lis and Brian--I'd never seen one of them together--at the bottom of this account. There is also a link to the delightful turn as a vegetable lady that
Lis did on Some Mothers Do Have 'Em even before Doctor Who linked at this account.
