We have Cleaned ALL THE THINGS!

Nov 21, 2010 21:40

Today was a group effort on the part of Husband, children, me, and, most heroically, b1uemorpho. For meanings of "We cleaned ALL THE THINGS!" that are more universal, we did not actually do this. For OUR purposes? WE. SO. ROCK.

Husband cleaned out the van so more than 3 people can be transported in it rather than the half dozen ladders that were the staple of it earlier. He took out the trash repeatedly and carried a large number of things to the basement (roasting pans, canned corn, dried mushrooms). Yesterday he got the 21.5# turkey out of the freezer. He carried up all the clean laundry he had run through the machines and continued running laundry through the machines. He changed the sheets on our bed and re-made the entire bed. He was around and about doing...something else the exact nature of which I am unaware of.

The kids worked together to change the sheets on the extra room beds. They worked together to tidy up and vacuum the front room (under the rug and around and the top of the rug). They both put their laundry away after it had been folded. They also fetched and carried as requested.

Boy scrubbed the tub and bathroom sink and Windexed the bathroom mirror. He scooped the kitty boxes. He sorted and stacked the shoes in the entryway so they're not a huge pile. He emptied the dishwasher. He put the new (huge) package of toilet paper into the bathroom cupboard.

Elf cleaned the toilet and scrubbed the bathroom floor and emptied the bathroom trash. She made her bed. She tidied their room entirely. She put the clothes to be given away into the bag that was prepared. She mopped the tile floor and scrubbed the bad spots by hand. She vacuumed the two bedrooms. She scrubbed the coffee table with a wet wipe.

b1uemorpho took everything off the kitchen table and put it on the floor, throwing out things as she went. She folded up all the handle bags that are accumulated. She then took the 3 handle bags and one large laundry bin of plastic containers to the living room and sorted them all out till they all either had lids or were ready to be discarded. Then she nested them and Russian-dolled them as appropriate. She fetched and carried and monitored children. She folded half the 3-weeks of laundry I'd let stack up.

I threw out an old, old pot of stuff that hadn't been eaten and had died, as well as the last few pieces of uneaten lasagne (a few days ago I emptied and cleaned out the fridge...it still needs to be scrubbed, but I put a bowl of baking soda in it today). I washed the last few pots and pans that were sitting around. I put away everything in the dish drainer. I cleared off the countertop. I scrubbed out the kitchen sinks and scrubbed the countertops and the top of the kitchen table once it had been unearthed. I swept up with the broom (several times). I combined the flour sacks and rice bags. I put away various things that were sitting out and could be in cupboards. I reorganized the kitchen table so it wasn't cluttered and the things on it belonged there. I cleared off the countertops and organized what was left. I put away gladware. I threw out an entire kitchen tall trash bag of old tupperware and knockoffs that we didn't need. I wiped off the stovetop. I folded 3 weeks' laundry with help. I ran herd on the children to get them to keep working keep working DO IT RIGHT. I gave orders. I put away my clothes. I picked up dinner for us all (Thai/Chinese).

The stovetop under the burners has not been scrubbed. Oh, well.

Many, many things could be So Much Better in the "clean" department. Things are MUCH cleaner and MUCH tidier. It is good.
