As most of you know, my kids have been taking Tae Kwon Do for about a year and a half (they're not great, but they go and it's good exercise, good balance work, good agility and flexibility work, a community, peer interaction, they're progressing, and we've got a group of local parents we call and interact with.
One of the things that the dojang has as part of its requirements for kids is that they must memorize the Children's Home Rules...and be able to recite them by number. So, at random times during class or testing, a child will be given the order to recite one with a simple, "Children's Home Rule number five," and be expected to reel it--verbatim--off with no other hints or clues.
Special for
imbri6, the list is as follows:
Children's Home Rules
- Children must show respect to their parents and family members at all times.
- Children shall greet their parents when they enter the home and tell them goodbye when they leave.
- Children will be truthful at all times.
- Children will maintain a good relationship with their brothers and sisters at all times.
- Children must help with household chores.
- Children must keep their room neat and clean at all times.
- Children must keep their body, hair, and teeth clean at all times.
- Children will not interrupt adult conversations. (My kids always add "at all times" and I keep trying to coach them to say, "at ANY time" but they're not getting it yet.)
- Children will study their school work at school and at home.
- Children must show respect to teachers and peers at all times.
*Children who do not obey their parents may be reduced in rank.
The best thing about this is that if I'm having a conversation and the kids try to break in, all I have to say, as an aside in my sentence, is "Children's Home Rule #8" and they both recite it AND wait (mostly). *beam*
LOVING our dojang.
