U.S. Citizens: VOTE!

Nov 03, 2008 21:17

Because this is a delight and, in its overall message, contains what I want to say to everyone who's of age and a citizen, take a look for the fun (seriously...Harrison Ford is WONDERFUL, though I apologize for this "Borat" dude) and for the reminder...and then GO VOTE.

This was the original ad, and it's a delight.

I am hopeful in spite of myself, and in spite of my paranoid superstition (speaking of...is the Redskins/Steelers game over yet? What happened?), and I am truly looking forward to voting tomorrow morning.

And tv_elf has the best post, reminding me of the original writers, what it's really all about, and, well, have a look.

ETA: Also, FiveThirtyEight just posted the St. Crispin's Day speech from Henry V. Wow. /ETA

ETA2: Oh...and, the Redskins are currently losing to the Steelers. Since 1936, excepting 2004 when the Republicans rigged the election, if the Redskins have won their last home game before a pres. election, the sitting party has stayed in the White House...if they've lost, the party in the White House has changed. To add to the special, in 2000, the Redskins did lose...but in overtime...on a technicality. /ETA

ETA3: And the Redskins have officially LOST their last home game before the election! AND all the polls are strong for Obama. And all the data is looking good. I am hopeful, though I'm scared to hope.

Also, The Authoritarians by Bob Altemeyer, a book I've read the introduction to and which I want to read all of, written by a psychologist who has been studying authoritarianism for decades--from the perspective not just of those who follow those who are dictatorial, but studying why people would be or want to be dictatorial.

As a side note, courtesy of
dw_britglish, this is apparently the Brit phrase for a women's small-scale spat/pissing contest: "That was a bit handbags at dawn." WIN!
