Tried to break my ankle today...

I did NOT break my ankle today, which is good, since I apparently made QUITE a good attempt.

I was practicing English Country Dance to teach to my students. It was my prep period and I'd found MIDI files of "Dargason/Sedany" and "Rufty Tufty" and "Gathering Peascods" and was doing a low-end run-through to see if I still remembered the sequence of the dances.

Speaking of which...I would really like to know what sound-editing program I could use to string the MIDI files end-to-end with no breaks so I can then burn them to CD and play the songs on a boom box loudly enough for the kids to practice in the courtyard.... Any ideas or suggestions?

At any rate, as I was doing either the moving back from siding or doing a set and turn, I turned my right ankle hard and it went *snap* rather like a pencil being broken in half. And it HURT. I hopped the two steps to my chair, sat down, and put the ankle up right away. I then called the security desk and asked them to send help, telling them that I thought I'd just broken my ankle. And I really did think I'd broken it.

It was our new Assistant Principal's second day and she had to come up and fill out the papers, including answering the question, "Was the injury incurred during the performance of the employee's regular duties?" She just stared...and laughed, as did I. Well, yes, I WAS doing my job...just, well, not many folks consider "practicing hundreds-of-years-old English country dance" as part of their job.

iingaartist is fantastic and came up to get my car and me, drove me to the lab, where I had x-rays, then to my doc where he agreed with me that the xrays showed no fracture. He palpated the various insertion points and general area and, based on my pain levels and its movement, decided that there were no ripped-off ligaments or tendons and, based on the lack of horrifying bruising, probably no tears either. It's slightly discolored now, but still VERY swollen (though only localized, not spreading at all).

And, yes, it's the same ankle I trashed in the SAME WAY a few years ago by falling off of pointe shoes I oughtn't have been on. I'm feeling really lucky that it's not SORE SORE SORE, just stiff-feeling, with an occasional ache all the way up to my hip along that ENTIRE muscle from my butt to the sole of my foot. Just...brilliant.

I've been wishing for time off. Be careful what you wish for...

me, ankle, injury
