Grading...and I thought teaching was a good idea...why??

Jan 21, 2008 16:48

So far today, I have graded somewhere in the neighborhood of 78 papers. Not all of these required in-depth feedback (in fact, most didn't).

I have remaining:

  • one set of Shakespeare Quotes Tests
  • one set of in-class essays (which require an explanation of why each scores as it does)
  • about 21 Skin of Our Teeth papers which include (or should) a paper, a 2-page feedback essay to a partner, and a 2-page reflection on their choices during their writing process
  • about 10 or so SoOT projects (movies, vids, etc.), which I will probably be grading next, and
  • about 10 or so revised papers for A Doll House, which I will probably do after the SoOT projects

This only leaves me with, oh, several hours of phoning to do to let the kids know who haven't turned in stuff that I've not received their stuff and that, without it, they're, you know, failing.

Oh, and a call to the parents of the two Very Good Friends who turned in nearly verbatim the same paper on Richard II.

The progress, though? Feels Really Great! Especially since this level of "BEHIND" is ENTIRELY my own stupid fault for goofing off so much the past two weeks (and the two of holidays before that)...but the goofing off has felt SO great and has been SO wonderful and things are going so well today that...oh it's nice. I've gotten far more done so far today than I expected, and if I can clear out my email "Homework" folder tonight, all will be well in my world. Yay!

ETA: I'm so pleased with myself. Since I first posted, I've graded another 47 papers (some small and quick, many more involved), and my homework in box is down to 26 emails! It feels SO GOOD!
