There has been Bad Computer Karma in my house for a while.
iingaartist's power connection on her computer finally went while she was here. My laptop's power connection finally bit the dust. The CMOS battery in the (lower powered) backup laptop went and the poor thing will no longer boot up at all. A LOVELY friend gave me an old laptop of hers and while it boots, it refuses to connect to the internet at all. So I am currently doing any computer work I do on my Husband's (also dying!) computer. Within a month or two, we should be able to replace the computers, but we can't quite yet. So, for the time being...limited access, and no access to Trillian...just a VERY old version of AIM (where the contacts are stored on the computer so my list is sorely lacking--feel free to buzz me if you see me).
There was much baking for VVC a couple of weeks ago, and I was very pleased to get all of the goodies right this year and gratified (yet again) to have folks adore the goodies.
I go back to work next Wednesday and then kids come (and my kids go) to school the Tuesday after Labor Day (Sept 4 or something like).
We had a great yard sale coup last week--lots of clothes for the kids in up-and-coming sizes. Whoot!
I have had a wonderful Fannish Immersion summer. As a result of the generosity of crack providers including
iingaartist,
wiliqueen,
mtgat, and
tzikeh, I have seen:
- all of Doctor Who to date and shown it to several folks and been generally giddy-happy
- all of Torchwood, for which the term "wildly uneven" doesn't even BEGIN to cover it
- S1-S3 of The 4400...and plan to watch S4 when it finishes airing
- S1-S3 of Slings and Arrows (and shown it to nearly half a dozen others), for which "brilliant and utterly delightful and entertaining" doesn't even BEGIN to cover it
- the first half of the season of Blood Ties with more to come (I had no idea I could recognize a night shot of the TO skyline from almost any angle, with or without the CN Tower, and feel all warm and fuzzy and nostalgic just from seeing it)
- all of Life on Mars (S1 and S2)
- the first two eps of Bones (more, please!)
- a sampling of three eps of Eureka (going to be catching up on S1 and the remainder of S2 very soon)
I even got to foist a ridiculous (and excessive) amount of Old School (all with Sarah Jane, of course) on
thisisnotemily. Still need to see Heroes.
Sarah Jane Adventures is slated to begin airing on CBBC in September. I think I'm not going to have a computer I can use to access that quite yet by then, so will be relying on the kindness of friends until I do...or waiting.
I've written NO fic (though I've toyed with a couple of drabble ideas).
I was VERY committed to exercising for two weeks...then stopped. I started again, but that only lasted a few days. Ugh. Hard.
Our house has become ant central. I'll get it under control, then dishes will be left in the sink and they'll take over again. I took the ant-infested plant outside and, again, it helped, but there are still ANTS. *sigh* The plan is to call an actual exterminator next year, as this is untenable and ANNOYING.
There has been much organizing around the house, but there is still SO much to do. So much. Very daunting. I want to get rid of what doesn't work, find homes for what is extra, find places for what we have...yeah...daunting. The idea of MAINTAINING it is even more daunting, even if wwe get it whipped into shape.
I need to fold laundry. Ugh.
My kids have been wonderful and cute and I've missed posting about at least a dozen adorable things they've done or said.
I know there are other things to update, but this is a start and I'll find that list of "things to share" later.
