I ended up having to sleep with Boy-o all night last night. It was actually really cute; he snuggled up against me and hugged me and wanted to be touching me. He wanted ME! Do you know how rarely that happens?
My mom did kids and let me sleep in. That was heavenly after the interrupted sleep of last night.
I got the van packed and came to check mail.
It's after noon, and I've got to head out soon.
The wooly worms are primarily orange this year with little tips of black. A mild winter, then. The ranger at the retreat thought I was nuts for wanting to check them, for believing that superstition that he'd heard of; he'd never met someone who actually believed it before, but my grandfather took it so very seriously. Of course, in fairness, he and his brothers also believed that cutting off their little dog's tail and putting it under the porch would give them long lives.
Mom has been playing with the kids, and it's lovely here. The trees are turning, and though not vibrant and brilliant, they're a lovely harbinger of full fall and of winter to come. There's that damp nip to the air here as well, and there were sprinkles this morning. Elf loves her new Scooby Doo umbrella--the first she's had. The air smells of fall, of leaves falling and chills descending and damp vegetation and browning leaves and dust.
I love the property here and this area. I hate the summer weather and the winter ice storms, but I miss this...more than I'd realized. It's just beautiful.
