Jason came back to Alabama for a few days this week to take care of some business in Montgomery and squeezed in a little time in our part of town before heading home to Minnesota. Last night, Brandi, Nate, Jason, Fairlyn and I had dinner and watched the Alabama-LSU game. I have to say that I was hopeful that Alabama would win-- I'd like to see them go all the way this year. Then, the SEC would have won the last 3 National Championships (which no division has ever done) and wouldn't that be a tough pill for some of the Big 12/ PAC 10 obsessive to swallow? The SEC= redheaded stepchildren of college football.

Today was a quiet day. I watched football and The War on PBS. I highly recommend The War to ANYONE who is interested in World War II or just needs to round out the bits and pieces that they already know about. It points out the highs and lows of the war based on the experiences of four American communities (Sacramento, CA; Mobile, AL; Luverne, MN; and Waterbury, CT) and is narrated by some fabulous people. I just love Katharine Phillips from Mobile-- she seems like she'd be wonderful just to sit and talk with for an afternoon. I love how she calls the men "the boys" and "our boys" with the loveliest Southern accent. Anyway, it's great and, if you can't catch it on TV you can rent it or buy it-- I got it through Netflix.

Still practicing every Monday night, working our way through the Messiah score.  I find it hard to believe that we'll ever make it through and I'll ever remember enough to do a good job for the actual performance, but we'll see what happens.  I sing for two hours every Monday and then have random phrases stuck in my head for the next day or so, such as "we like lambs... emphasize the K!!!".  December 19th seems a long way away but I guess it's not, really, since we're three weeks and change from Thanksgiving already.

And...not much more to report here. I have a haircut scheduled for Wednesday and am planning to see Reba and Kelly Clarkson Friday night...how was YOUR weekend?

friends, home, fairlyn, football
