Concert Lust!

So, as we all know, I am a music junkie. I have sold band instruments, I have sold CDs...I have spent COUNTLESS dollars on concert tickets. I have worked merch booths for free admission. I have postered the town for tickets. It's an addiction. And it's one that I have been controlling very well lately. I am trying very hard to get my spending, budget, etc. under control. The last concert that I went to was Dave Matthews in August. That means I have missed John Mayer TWICE, Matt Nathanson, Jamie Cullum & Michael Buble'.

However, Billy Joel is coming to town. And I love the piano man.

In 5th grade, the Easter bunny left me the Storm Front cassette in my basket. I listened to it endlessly and I still have it. One day, our history teacher decided that, for fun, she'd play "We Didn't Start the Fire" and give us bonus points for each of the events that we could remember and list at the end. I had had the tape for awhile and pretty much had the song memorized-- I may not have known what all of the references meant, but I could write fast. She stopped counting at 30 and was pretty darned angry with me about it.

In 10th grade, Mr. Joel came to the BJCC and I *begged* to go. He was here the same week that Janet Jackson was here on her "Janet" tour. So, while the "cool" kids were going to see Ms. Jackson, my Mom and I went to see Billy Joel. It was amazing. I cried at the end of the show when he let the audience sing the last chorus of "Piano Man" acappella-- I thought it was the most beautiful thing in the world--all of those people, singing together. For someone whose only concert experiences had been The Monkees and New Kids on the Block, it was a life-changing event.
I have tried to win tickets all week long. On Wednesday I got through and CHOKED on the middle song. Lost. Today, I got through but when they got to me, they had a winner. My "Christmas" this year is going towards getting my catalytic converter fixed on my car. Happy Holidays to me! I'm finally digging my way out of my "Be a Psychology Major, Go To Work for the State as a Social Worker, Get Paid a Month in Arrears" hole, and extra holiday catering money should cover very bare minimum shopping, but I can't afford to buy tickets Saturday.

So, please, tomorrow-- they're giving away 2nd row tickets. And I need ALL of your good karma. It's been an amazing week-- my best friend since childhood AND my stepsister both had beautiful baby boys on Wednesday, and winning tickets to see the BEST performer I've ever seen-- up against Elton John, Garth Brooks, DMB and many many others would really make my lifetime. It's a selfish request I know, but I could use the lift.
