Kristian was going to be sitting in on a conference call and essentially picking this guy's brain (he's an arts advocate) until some point in the afternoon. I had done minimal research about Monroe, because I'm a slacker. However, we had passed a mall so naturally I decided to check that out. But, I had also read about them having a zoo, so I decided to check that out as well.
The Louisiana Purchase Gardens & Zoo cost me a grand $4.50. The lady asked if I wanted a boat ride ticket, so I asked how much was a boat ride ticket. Turns out, it's $3, so I got one of those as well. I walked to the boat dock, and got my own personal boat ride from Sully, because as he said "one is better than none". The boat essentially tours by the back of some of the exhibits, giving you a view of a number of monkeys, as well as the zebras (who were standing waaaay far away), llamas, I think a wildebeest, and some goat things. Either way it was fun, and it was slightly breezy. Sully mentioned it being 104 or something, and my reply was "yeah, in the shade".
pelican - oil = <3
Some guy in scrubs walked by and my first thought was "why is there a doctor at the zoo" and then it was like "duh veterinarian". amazing, I am actually slow sometimes. But anyway, he told me that blurry guy in the back is the oldest of his kind in captivity, he's 42, and diabetic.
Here's a series that
fotojournalist is gonna love.
Pretty kitty
Pretty kitty with a beer keg
It was so hot they had fans on the tropical birds
Ooh, I forgot to mention, as I was leaving the zoo a guy was asking to make sure I had a good time and such. And then he sorta pause for a moment, then asked "Would you like some lemonade?" and as I stood there dripping in sweat I said "yes I would." So I got a free lemonade for being their only paying patron so far that day.
Then I went to the mall (and the air conditioning) and bought some awesome sale items because that's what I'm good at. Then Kristian called, and I picked her up, grabbed a bite to eat, and we headed home. We waved at Natchez on our way through, and were making good time. Then Kristian wanted to stop at
The Myrtles. It's a famous haunted home. We'd almost stopped on the way up, but Tuesday is actually the one day they're closed. Touring was over, but the Carriage House restaurant was open for dinner so we took some pictures of the grounds and stopped in for drinks.
Mint Julep
I also needed to do a drink review, so we stopped into Galatoire's and had their Sazerac...
as well as the duck crepe appetizer
Good trip.
