Leftovers of the Deluge

Apr 20, 2006 00:46

Dr Jones is still wary of me but I think that she's partly convinced herself that it never happened. She needs me to collaborate what happened on our trek to the site, and I listened to her tell Dr Simmerian that we found the river and a boat and followed the current. I might have been surprised, but I'm far too accustomed to people rationalizing that which they can't wrap their minds around. It's human nature.

She's been released from the hospital, and we have been afforded a very nice suite in Sao Paulo. It's a far cry from the rural village and hospital where I took her originally. I think that Uni is feeling rather guilty about the outcome of our survey. (As if they did something to cause the Deluge).

It's funny, but the world appears to be coming back together. The religious are still looking for signs of the Anti-Christ, but mostly, the world continues to revolve and life goes on. House fires have been put out, automobiles that wound up wrecking when their drivers disappeared - or worse - have been moved and roads are clear again.

The only leftover seems to be an outbreak of a particularly nasty strain of SARS that's making its way around the States. Lisa and her whole family have begun to complain of sniffles and coughing and I've opted to not visit for a good while. I really, really hate being sick.
