Doesn't Involve Sleeping
For a while, Gibbs tried to ignore the tossing and turning from the other side of the bed, but when Jenny's sharp knee made contact with his thigh, he stopped pretending to be asleep.
"I know you're awake, Jen," he said.
He felt her flop back against the pillows. "Sorry."
"What's the matter, Jen?" Gibbs asked. "We've only been away from D.C. for one day. Not even DiNozzo can cause that much trouble in a day."
She managed a laugh at that. "Not for lack of trying, I'm sure," she said.
"Jen..."
"I know," she sighed. "We're supposed to be on vacation. No work, no politics, no cases..."
"No phones," Gibbs added.
Jenny ignored him. "And I had a great time today, Jethro, don't get me wrong. It was the perfect day for a hike- although, MREs don't quite count as a 'picnic'."
"Easier to pack," said Gibbs, which got him another laugh. "C'mon, Jen, what's bothering you."
She paused. "It's nothing."
"So you just like tossing and turning all night?"
"No." She sighed again. "It's stupid."
"Try me."
"Jethro..."
"Jen."
It was, Jenny quickly found out, impossible to have a staring contest in the dark. "You're going to laugh," she said, switching tactics.
"I won't," Gibbs promised.
"Fine," said Jenny. "I don't like this bed."
Gibbs managed not to laugh, but she smacked his arm anyway. "What?" he asked.
"It's uncomfortable," she insisted.
"It's fine," said Gibbs.
Jenny snorted. "Says the man who sleeps under a boat."
"Not on purpose." He paused. "If it's really that bad, Jen, we could always find someplace else to sleep."
"Thank you, Jethro," she said, a smile in her voice. Jenny slid over, resting her head on his shoulder. "But I was thinking we might do something else. Something that doesn't involve sleeping."
