Yeah, crap at work is still crappy, and apparently, nobody is hiring right now. The HR lady/my ‘supervisor’ still has no idea what I actually do, despite her constant need to tell me that I’m ‘not busy’ when I am in fact very busy and simultaneously imply that I am not at all important at work.
But instead of thinking about that, let’s talk about TV shows!
Shows I Am Currently Watching:
Arrow
I’m only half-way through Season 2 (watching on Netflix) but I still love this show. I don’t know much about the comics, so I can’t say how close they are to the original, but I like the way it’s going so far. Felicity is definitely my favorite character (and yes, I ‘ship Felicity x Oliver) mostly because she had actual, normal reactions to superhero stuff, while still being smart and awesome.
The Big Bang Theory
I love the character development that’s gone on in this show. Characters are really the most important thing, for me to like a show or not, and I love every single one of them, still. Plus, they have great female characters, who like each other and talk to each other and just hang out, and that’s pretty cool.
Castle
Okay, so the whole not-wedding-kidnapping thing was kind of weird (and not really resolved?) but they’re still doing pretty good. I think I’m a few books behind on this one, too…
Criminal Minds
I missed most of last season, so there’s probably a few mentions and things that I’m missing, but their new agent is named ‘Kate’ and I always enjoy characters that share my name.
Forever
I really like this one! It’s a bit like “New Amsterdam” (did anybody else watch that?) in that the main character can’t die, but learns various lessons that come in handy later, but I really like that Henry is an ME, that he’s trying to figure out his curse/condition, and that he helps the police. It really works for the plot that he has a purpose and something to do with his long life. Although, I can’t say I like the ‘mysterious also long-lived phone guy’. It seems like really unnecessary drama, and I only hope they resolve it in a not-stupid way.
Girl Meets World
I was a little bit too young to really get into “Boy Meets World”- I watched it fairly regularly, but I wasn’t completely a fan. But the Next Gen. version is actually really good, especially for a Disney Chanel show (nothing against them, they’re just usually not my thing). It’s funny and sweet, with middle-school-level life lessons, and I’m enjoying it.
Gotham
This is an interesting premise, since we already know where the plot is going- to Bruce Wayne becoming Batman. But in the meantime, we get to see Jim Gordon as the only sane/non-corrupt cop, teenage thief Catwoman, wee little Bruce learning how to save Gotham and getting looked after by slightly-cranky Alfred…and presumably the origins of all his crazy villains. It’s a little dark and scary, but then, it is the origins of a city that need a guy dressed as a bat to save it.
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD
I’m like a week behind watching this, since new episodes are only on Hulu plus for a week. But it’s been really interesting- rebuilding SHIELD, Coulson as Director, finding out what’s up with Fitz- and Simmons! She’s my favorite character, and I ‘ship FitzSimmons, so I’m waiting to see what happens now that she’s back (that’s this week’s episode, I think).
The Mysteries of Laura
I hadn’t thought I would like this one! Usually shows take the mom/other job thing and make it an angsty drama, but this shows the balance really well. Laura is a mom and a cop, and neither one is more important than the other. I especially like that she can be both at the same time- she frequently pulls ‘mom’ moves on her partner and/or other people. I will definitely keep watching.
NCIS
Bishop is really growing on me, as a character. And they seem to be doing more of the team-as-family bantering that I really enjoy on this show. Hopefully, it will continue to be as good as always.
NCIS: Los Angeles
Also still just as good. They’ve got a different dynamic than the original team, which is a lot of fun. And I’ve been ‘shipping Kensi/Deeks from the beginning, but it’s just getting worse. Or do I mean better? (I think I do.)
NCIS: New Orleans
A new one this year, and I like it already. The characters are great (which, remember, is a big selling point for me) and it seems like it’s going to get better.
Orphan Black
The season is over, but I kind of need to squee about this one. Seriously, how can you not love this show? One actress plays half of the characters (not-spoiler, they’re clones) and she’s so good that apparently her co-stars forget that all the different characters are her. Every time they answer one question, we get about a dozen more, and now I want to know what happens! When does the next season start?
Scorpion
Another new one. A crew of eccentric geniuses, their government handler and their ‘normal-translater’ (I keep calling her their ‘non-magical friend’). It’s a fun bit of “yeah, I can relate” for semi-social smart people. (Also, I know Paige/Walter is the ‘official’ ‘ship, but I cannot be the only person ‘shipping Happy/Toby. They’re just so cute!)
Selfie
I’ll admit, I watched the first episode because it’s American!Amy Pond and reboot!Sulu doing Pygmalion/My Fair Lady. But it’s actually really good! Eliza (Amy) needs to improve her ability to interact with real people, and Henry (Sulu) needs to learn to relax and have fun. It’s really well-written, and I hope they don’t resolve things too quickly, because I want it to keep going for a while.
Sleepy Hollow
Does anyone even know how to describe this show? Other than good, because it is. The Witnesses to Revelation storyline is great, but I really love the little funny Crane-is-old bits they keep throwing in. He takes to some parts of the present, but despairs over others, he leaves voicemails like he’s dictating a letter and drives like a madman… I hope this one keeps going, too.
Supernatural
I am super late to this fandom, but I’m totally onboard now. I’m kind of bummed now that my favorite character is dead (Bobby, who stayed dead, this time) but it’s still good. I’m also now ‘shipping Dean/Cas, so I will probably start writing drabbles about them any time now.
I'd love to know what all my friends are watching (is there anything better than fangirling/fanboying together? I didn't think so). Let me know, and distract me from my crappy job search. Please?
