After the third straight night Howell complained about my abysmal after-action reports, I’ve decided to start recording things as they happen, to review when writing later. I would like to state for the record that my partner is now glaring at me, and I’m going to shut up.

Details: okay, so this is not a missing persons case. It’s a missing mascot costume case. During the practice for a high school basketball game, the coach called in to report one of his students missing. Then, the kid who plays the PS 119 ‘rampager’ (see case notes for reference photos provided by school officials) turned up from the bathroom as we were taking details of his disappearance. Upon review, all students were accounted for, leaving only the costume MIA. More details to follow these details.

With no other officers available, Howell and I performed a canvas of the area surrounding the school. No witnesses, but the corner market across the way gave us a surveillance video- an actual video cassette tape- which we have sent to tech. Details to follow the details that have already followed.

After the techs stopped laughing, they informed us that they had analyzed the tape (more laughter) and found a dark four-door sedan, which stayed parked with a driver inside outside the school for more than five minutes. The license plate was unreadable, and the driver unidentifiable. After five minutes, two more individuals entered the vehicle, carrying something that may or may not have been big enough to hide a mascot costume.
I have an idea. Details to follow.

I was right! After consulting with members of the PS 119 basketball team, I obtained the name of their rival school, the team they were practicing to play. Howell and I made a surprise visit to PS 121, where we found the Rampager costume in the possession of several members of the PS 121 basketball team. Officer Howell delivered a stirring lecture on the evils of theft, which was attentively received. The coach of the PS 121 Anihilators agreed to supervise community service, and the coach of PS 119 agreed not to press charges.
Also, I overheard three different players comment to their friends that I was ‘hot’. Score.
