When Katie McGee saw her mother waiting in the schoolyard, her eyes widened. “Mom! Is it Dad? Is he okay? What happened!?”
“Nothing happened!” Abby told her quickly. “Dad’s fine, everyone’s fine. Why did you think it wasn’t?”
Katie threw her arms around Abby’s waist. “Your hair,” she said. “You’re wearing a ponytail, Mom, what was I supposed to think?”
“Oh. I was…” Her mother sighed, and hugged her back. “I was trying to be mature and serious.”
“Mom,” giggled Katie. “That’s just silly.
“It is, isn’t it?” Abby agreed. “Will you do my pigtails when we get home?”
