A Technical Glitch
“I’m sorry, sir,” said the airman on duty, when John arrived for his third morning of debriefing. “But none of our equipment seems to be working.”
“None of it?” John repeated. The SGC used a dozen different devices to record the debriefings, and he couldn’t understand how all of them could be out.
“Yes, sir,” said the airman, sounding just as confused.
“Sheppard, there you are.” Rodney stopped in the doorway. “Come on.”
“I have a meeting, Rodney,” said John, patiently.
“No, you don’t. It’s been cancelled.” He turned to the airman. “You’re dismissed.”
“Rodney…” said John, but the airman had left.
“What? I’ve just been to see General Landry, and he’s cancelled all debriefings for today. There’s some sort of technical glitch going on.”
“A glitch?” John repeated, as they started down the corridor. “Then I’m sure the general asked you to take a look at it.”
“Of course he did,” said Rodney. “Which is exactly why I know that none of will be fixed until tomorrow morning, at the earliest.”
“And how do you know that?” asked John, suspiciously.
They got into the elevator and Rodney hit the button for the top level. “Because that’s how long I set the program to run for, and Sam promised she wouldn’t let anyone fix it until then.”
“Rodney.”
“I gave Sam all the override codes, don’t worry. I just didn’t think it was fair that anyone had to stay underground second-guessing every decision he’s made for the last year, on his birthday.”
John blinked. “That’s today?”
“Yes, it is,” Rodney said, slowly.
“And you sabotaged the entire SGC network so you could spring me for the day?”
“Not the entire network… but, yes.”
John grinned and leaned in to kiss him. “I knew there was a reason I love you.”
