Dangerous

“Danger Elizabeth Smith, you stop right there.”

Danny froze, one hand on the doorknob- busted.

“Yes?” she asked, turning back to her mother.

Mrs. Smith frowned. “Are you going to the library again?”

“Mom…”

“You spend far too much time shut up with dusty books, Danny,” she said. “I’m all for learning and knowledge, you know that, but couldn’t you find something more… active?”

“Like chasing down bad guys?” Danny asked, with a wry smile.

Her mother, still in her SWAT team uniform, smiled. “I just want you to be happy. But you know I love you, don’t you? No matter how strange your hobbies are.”

“Even if I grow up to be a librarian? Or a dermatologist? Or an accountant.”

Mrs. Smith laughed. “Yes, I’ll love you even then. Go, read your books. Dinner will be at seven.”

Danny gave her mother a kiss on the cheek, and headed for the library.
