Good Day
“Well, that was weird,” said Natasha, when she and Clint suddenly found themselves standing on the sidewalk outside of Avengers Tower. “All I said was that it was a nice day for a walk.”
Clint shrugged. “I’ve stopped asking why Tony Stark does anything.”
“Yes, but Steve and Bruce went along with it.”
“Which just means that it can’t be too bad.”
“True,” Natasha agreed. “And it is a nice day for a walk.”
“Exactly,” said Clint, and held out his arm. “Shall we?”
She rolled her eyes, but smiled and slid her hand into the crook of his elbow.
New York was a beautiful city when it wasn’t under attack by giant aliens or crazed supervillains. Natasha had been here before, several times, but never without a job and a strict timetable, never with nothing better to do than wander wherever she felt like with a good friend at her side.
It was the best afternoon she had spent in a long time. Clint got them ice cream cones as they walked through Central Park, and Natasha drop-kicked some punk who tried to steal an elderly woman’s purse- without a doubt, a good day.
As the sun went down and it started to get cold, Clint steered them back toward the Tower.
“Thanks,” said Natasha, as JARVIS let them back in. “I had a nice day.”
“Just remember that,” said Clint, and opened the kitchen door.
“Surprise!”
Natasha had a knife in her hand before she realized that everyone in the room was wearing party hats and standing around a large, spider-shaped cake.
“Happy birthday, Natasha,” said Steve, gently taking the knife and handing her a glittery cardboard hat.
“There’s cake,” said Bruce.
“And presents!” said Tony.
Clint leaned in, carefully. “Still having a good day?”
She grinned. “Yeah.”
