Hero Ships (disk 2)
Year: around 2008
Genre: documentary
Rating: G
Starring: interviews with ships’ crews
Source: on DVD
Seen Before?: no
Watch Again?: sure
A series of short episodes, each about a different US Navy ship. I especially liked the one about the USS Arizona- I’d watched other shows about it, but I’d never realized they still buried (their ashes, at least) survivors of Pearl Harbor on the ship today.

Genre: cartoon show
Rating: G
Starring: Pauline Collins, John Alderton (et al.)

Watch Again?: probably not
I have the Mr. Men and Little Miss books (with characters like Mr. Bumby, Little Miss Shy, Mr. Tickle, Little Miss Chatterbox and others) and I loved them as a kid. But I’m not really sure about the show. It wasn’t bad, though, and I liked the continuity of even those short bits, where what happened in one would carry through the whole episode.

Ah, old movies. This is one of the classics, and pretty entertaining. Also, it’s culture, so it’s good for you.

Watch Again?: yeah, I guess
Watched on Groundhog Day, because we could. I’d seen clips, but never the whole movie, and now I get what all the parodies and jokes are about.

I didn’t really watch this when it was on- I did sometimes, when I felt like it- but it’s a fairly decent kids’ show.

Watch Again?: sure
This series is only online. I watched the first couple (short!) episodes, but felt kind of lost. Then I found the book, which is actually a prequel that explains pretty much everything, and when I went back to start the series again, it was so much better. I really hope they make a few more episodes!

This was the second AG movie released, but I’m watching them in chronological order, along with my re-read of all the books. It’s a pretty good movie, but not nearly as good as the books. They have to squish six separate stories into one two-hour plot, so a lot of the detail gets lost.

Watch Again?: I don’t think so
Sherlock Holmes is in “modern” World War II-era London, trying to keep a (German?) inventor and his invention (not a weapon, but technically a bomb-guidance system) from enemy hands. Another old movie, but still pretty good.

As much as I enjoy these, I really wish they’d done them as mini-series instead of feature-lengths. There’s so much of the story that they can’t fit it, not to mention the stuff they move around for no apparent reason. The books make so much more sense than this one! Also, I’m a little distracted now that Uncle Gard is Frankie Rizzoli from Rizzoli & Isles…

I’m an old-school Bond fan (Sean Connery was the best, Pierce Brosnan an acceptable replacement) and I have been less than impressed with Daniel Craig’s Bond. Casino Royale was pretty bad, I thought, and I didn’t even watch Quantum of Solace. This one was a little more in keeping with the old Bond, but they still keep trying to make it a fighting, blowing-things-up action movie, when it’s supposed to be a suave get-the-girl, (okay, blowing-things-up) movie. Maybe the next one…

Rating: none (G)
Starring: Kelly Sheridan, Lee Tockar, Kathleen Barr (et al.)

Watch Again?: nope
Um… yeah. I didn’t exactly expect a lot from a Barbie Fairy film. A lot of movies have dodgy science, but this one somehow has dodgy magic. Seriously, the fairies have to use “flance” (flight + dance) to magic up spring every year. That said, it’s not a bad movie, in a pink-fluffy sort of way.

Rating: PG-13
Starring: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence (et al.)

Watch Again?: maybe
As much as I enjoyed this one, I think they took a few too many artistic licenses with the original story. They’d already done the X-Men movies, which switched around the timeline of the comics, so they had to keep that going. Still, it was a pretty good back-story, especially young!Charles and young!Erik going around looking for the mutants (plus cameo by Wolverine *g*)

Rating: none (G)
Starring: Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra (et al.)
Source: on TV
Seen Before?: yes
Watch Again?: absolutely
I caught this one on TV, late at night. It’s a great show, and the movie is a really good version of it. I particularly like this one because Guys and Dolls was the first musical I was in- I was a Mission Doll, sophomore year of high school. Which was where I learned that I found acting really boring, and switched to running the sound equipment junior and senior years (“Oklahoma” & “Fiddler on the Roof”) then stage manager for all four years of college (“Annie Get Your Gun,” “Footloose,” “Bye, Bye, Birdie” & “The Wizard of Oz”) Bonus Fun Trivia Fact! This movie is Marlon Brando’s only singing role.

Watch Again?: maybe?
I knew this was a movie about silent films, but I did not realize before it started that it was a silent film. And a good one! It’s a great story, and actually having no dialogue makes you pay more attention, and catch some of the details you might miss in another film. The only other silent film I’ve seen is “Metropolis” (a sci-fi) but this really seemed like it was filmed in the same style.

Genre: family, comedy
Rating: Y (G)
Starring: Melissa Joan Hart, Jason Zimbler, Elizabeth Hess (et al.)

Watch Again?: if it’s on
I mostly missed this show the first time it was on- I was just slightly too young, and I’ve never particularly been a fan of high school drama-type shows. But it’s still pretty entertaining, especially Clarissa’s fabulous 90s fashions!
