Waiting Up
McGee couldn’t sit still. Nothing on TV had been able to distract him. He couldn’t focus clearly enough to read anything, and writing was ruled out, too. Finally, he just began pacing, walking between the kitchen doorway and the living room coffee table.
“Seriously, Timmy?” said Abby. “She’s sixteen. I did much worse-”
“Abs, I love you, but please don’t tell me that. What if-?”
At that moment, the front door opened, and their daughter, Katie, came in. “Good night!” she yelled back outside, then turned to smile at her parents. “You weren’t waiting up for me, were you?”
