My weekend was kind of busy, but pretty good...
It's a good idea to plan ahead because, somehow, things always manage not to go to plan. This Friday was my little brother's birthday (he turned 24) and my family had planned to go out for dinner at
Yantze (the best Chinese-American food ever). We had reservations for 7:15, since I was scheduled to work until 7, and it's only a 5-minute drive from there. But, of course, the one day I couldn't stay late, the paperwork I have to finish before I leave (which there is always more of on Fridays anyway) didn't get sent to the office printer by the other office until 6:30. But, luckily, I'd known the paperwork was going to be heavy, so I asked my dad, who was picking me up, to come in and help me finish cleaning up. He was able to help me match bills to verifications and get them paperclipped to their envelopes so I could get my ymummy Papaya Shrimp. Hopefully, I didn't forget anything before I left (fingers crossed...)
Part two of being prepared came after dinner-- I completely hadn't thought to get my brother a present! But then I remembered that I had gotten him something, months ago, and put it in my closet for safe keeping. So, I did a "dad wrap job" (tying up the plastic shopping bag something came in) and my brother loved his presents: an old Nintendo NES "Karate Kid" game and the DVD set of "That's My Bush".
A rare tangent about video games-- my brother decided to test out the Karate Kid game (kind of lame) but we also tried playing a 1994 movie-based "Stargate" Sega Genesis game he'd found someplace. The graphics are so terrible! You play as Col. O'Neil (with one 'L') trying to find the rest of your team on Abydos. I actually did pretty well-- I got as far as a big door that wouldn't open, then found Daniel, then talked to Kasuf (who suddenly spoke English). Then I died. Usally, I'm much worse at video games *g*
Then, Saturday was movie night and my parents and I went to see
Brave (in 3D). It was fantastic! It's such a cute story, and the animation was great. I think Merida will become one of my favorite Disney characters, with her crazy red hair and her archery. I absolutely want some Brave stuff for my birthday now (it's in July).
Then today, we went out to dinner with my honorary aunt & uncle, and a mutual friend, to celebrate her 80th birthday. We hadn't gotten together in a while, so it was great to catch up.
