Close Call
Coming around the corner, gun at the ready, Gibbs felt his heart stop.
Tony lay on the ground, sprawled and motionless, with McGee kneeling beside him, his back to the alley entrance, hands frantically checking his partner for injuries.
It was a scene straight from Gibbs's nightmares. They'd started after Kate's death, always ending with one of his team dead- shot and killed because he, Gibbs, couldn't protect them.
"DiNozzo," he breathed, kneeling on Tony's other side, but finding no obvious sign of injury.
"Ow..." Tony moaned, sitting up. "Why's it always my head?"
Gibbs ducked his head and grinned.
