Red
Jenny Shepard

Having red hair, Jenny had always been told, was closely followed by a fiery temper.

She had the first, that was certain, but not the second. She just didn't see the use in anger- it clouded people's judgment, made them reckless. Sometimes, she learned painfully, it got people killed.

But just because Jenny didn't have a temper did not mean she didn't have any fire.

That, she had in spades, a jet-fueled drive to be the best, better than the best.

Other people were consumed by their passions, but Jenny let hers propel her all the way to the top.

Orange
Paula Cassidy
(tag to "Grace Period")

In the split-second before the explosion hit, all Paula could see was orange.

She knew that she'd feel the heat, the pain, any second, but time seemed to stop and all she felt was a deep calm.

Amazingly, she didn't regret dying. She'd known she was going this way when she'd lost her team- she was just grateful she could make her death count for something.

Paula thought Gibbs had guessed, and she felt a little bad for doing this to him, to Tony, so soon after they'd lost Kate.

She heard the door close just before her world ended.

Yellow
Tony DiNozzo

With a quick flash of his badge, Tony ducked under the yellow police tape. The uniform watching the scene called, "The ME's already here, detective."

Detective DiNozzo.

Had a nice ring to it, Tony thought. His teachers at the police academy certainly never thought he'd make it that far.

Tony knew he'd make it. Okay, he hadn't known, but he'd really, really wanted to prove them wrong, and he'd worked his butt off to make it happen.

And here he was, with the highest case-closure rate in the precinct.

Too bad he had the most reprimands in his record, too.

Green
Tim McGee

From the moment he got out of FLETC, McGee hated being the New Guy.

Yes, he was green, but that didn't mean he was stupid. There were, he admitted, things that had to be experienced and not only read about, but he'd always been a fast learner.

Plus, this was the twenty-first century. Computers were the way of the future, and that was McGee's specialty. Most Special Agents he knew could barely turn their computers on, let alone hack anything.

Then he cornered a suspect in an alley- and ended a life.

Maybe, he thought, being green wasn't so bad.

Blue
L.J. Gibbs

Leroy Jethro Gibbs had been born with blue eyes.

Blue, like the pond behind their house, his mother told him, with a smile.

Blue, like a tumbling waterfall, said Shannon, but he felt like the one who was falling.

Blue, like a storm at sea, muttered Tony, as he steered junior agents back from the waves.

Blue, like ice, said a suspect, more than once.

Blue, said his goddaughter, Amira, like the sky on a bright sunny day.

Gibbs smiled and watched her wade out into the ocean, remembering a blue-eyed girl who'd helped him build a boat long ago.

Indigo
Ziva David

Ziva had always loved sunsets best of all.

Modern thinking calculated the day in twenty-four hour increments, but in the old traditions, it was sunset that marked the end of one day.

Another day she had survived.

Some days, that was more of an achievement than others, but no matter where she was, or what she had been doing, the sun sinking gently into the horizon never failed to send a wave of peace through her heart.

And whenever she could, she sat and watched the sky slowly fade from gold to orange to pink to indigo sparkling with stars.

Violet
Michelle Lee

All her life, Michelle had been timid.

She knew that, and tried to overcome it, but the truth remained that her answer to 'fight or flight' was unchangingly 'flight'.

Until the day she'd seen a group of boys from her sixth grade class corner a first grader behind the dumpsters, and something in her had snapped.

The detention was completely worth seeing the shocked looks on their faces, especially that black eye.

And when the school councilor asked her what careers she'd been considering, she said "Law Enforcement" without a second thought.

Michelle was no shrinking violet. Not any more.

Black
Abby Sciuto

People wondered why Abby was a Goth if she was always so upbeat.

But Abby didn't much care what people thought. She did was she wanted and wore what she liked. Which, it turned out, happened to be lace-edged tops and pleated skirts, platform shoes and leather collars, skull barrettes and spider web tattoo.

But she still smiled easily, hugged everyone and danced while she was working.

When she started driving the hearse, though, people pretty much stopped asking questions.

Abby finished smoothing on her black lipstick, tweaked her pigtails straight, adjusted her barrettes, then smiled at her reflection.

Perfect.

White
Kate Todd

One hundred pages of crisp, white paper, slightly textured and spiral-bound, rested solidly in both of Kate's hands.

There was so much potential in paper, space where anything could be drawn, where anything that could be seen or imagined could be brought to life.

Kate loved being an NCIS agent, it was the only career she could imagine, but at heart, she knew she was an artist. She saw something interesting, something important, and she couldn't help wanting to draw it.

She closed her fingers tightly around the sketchpad and grinned.

She knew just what she wanted to draw first.

Gray
Jimmy Palmer

The rest of the students in Jimmy's beginning pathology class were full of bravado until the time came for them to practice on an actual cadaver.

Unlike the medical teaching cadavers, which were cleaned, treated and more like gray mannequins than people, this one was clearly fresh. It was broken and bloody, and the other students edged away.

But Jimmy took a step closer- he wanted to figure out what killed this man, how he died, and why.

The professor caught him at the end of class. "I know you've been looking for a job," he said. "Ever considered NCIS?"
