Guilty as Charged
The door to Jack’s cell creaked open, admitting a shaft of light and a silhouette that took him back in time twenty years.
When he blinked, his vision cleared and he could see the blonde braid over her shoulder now, the two silver stars where there had once been silver bars.
He grinned. “Hey, Carter.”
“So, you’ve gotten yourself thrown into another alien jail,” said Sam, a smile in her voice.
“If I was actually in trouble, you’d be more worried, right?”
Sam stepped closer to the wooden bunk where he was sitting. “Daniel and Vala had it taken care of before they even called me,” she said. “What you did was basically trespassing, and according to their laws, you only need to pay a fine. But since they use a barter economy here, I came along to make sure they’ll take good old Earth-grown whole wheat flour instead of the stuff that’s made from their local grain.”
“That’s it?” said Jack.
“You also have to apologize to the court.”
He held out his hand, and she took it. “I can do that.”
