Memos

In all honesty, Jack really hadn't gotten his memos at first.

He'd later found out that it was some sort of typo in the computer's distribution software, so that for the first month, his name had not been on the list of command officers and team leaders. Someone had discovered the error, and quickly corrected it, but Jack was already prejudiced against reading his memos.

For one simple reason- Captain Samantha Carter.

Or rather, because as soon as Sam had found out that he hadn't been getting any memos, she'd bring her own print-outs to the commissary, where Jack had taken his paperwork (a flat surface to write on was a flat surface to write on, and the commissary had cake).

Sometimes, if she could, Sam would stay to have a cup of blue Jell-O and discuss whatever the latest memo was about- Jack did his best to make sure she could.

By the end of the second week, Jack had started grabbing the Jell-O when he got his cake, and Sam started finding reasons to stay, even if the memo was abundantly clear.

By the end of the month, Jack didn't even bother going back to his office anymore. If there was anything really, truly pressing, Hammond would tell him in person, and without fail, Sam brought every new memo to the commissary to read over cake and Jell-O.

In fact, Jack had almost forgotten that he had an office. He recalled it had been gray and boring and completely lacking in sugary foods. As a result, he was not incredibly motivated to go looking for it.

Somewhere, he knew, memos were continuing to pile up on his abandoned desk.

But Jack didn't care. He had cake and Carter, and that was better than having an office any day.
