“Hey, Carter,” said Jack, slouching in her office doorway. “Ready to go?”
Sam closed the file folder she’d had open on her desk. “More than ready.”
Sitting across from her, Daniel frowned. “Go where?”
“Fishing,” they replied in unison, and Jack grinned.
Daniel only frowned more. “Sam, we have that meeting with the delegation from P1X-214 tomorrow morning. And there aren’t any ships in orbit. You don’t have time to go all the way to Minnesota.”
“There are plenty of ponds without fish right here in Colorado,” said Sam.
“Besides,” added Jack, “we weren’t planning on much fishing, just… fishing.”
“Ew,” said Daniel. “I didn’t need to know that.”
“You asked,” Jack told him, cheerfully.
“I’m pretty sure I didn’t,” said Daniel.
Sam let Jack grin at him smugly for another moment, then said, “We really are just going fishing. There’s a park near our house with a little creek… it’s very relaxing.”
“Jack has been a bad influence on you,” Daniel said, but he was smiling. “Have fun.”
“We will,” said Sam. “Once we’re done fishing, there will probably still be plenty of time for… fishing.”
“Ew,” Daniel said again. “Go away, both of you.”
Sam laughed and took the hand that Jack held out to her. “Shall we, general?”
“Lead the way, general.”
