Tricycle
Eliot heard movement by the roof access structure, but didn’t move. He had recognized the distinctive footsteps even before Hardison’s voice grumbled, “What is he even doing on the roof?”
“Brooding,” said Parker - Eliot snorted, but he was honest enough with himself to admit that she was right.
“You did drop a pretty big bombshell on him, mama,” said Hardison. “Now, where is he?”
Eliot stepped into the circle of light around the access door. “Right here.”
Hardison jumped. “Don’t do that, man! Sneaking up on people…”
“He was standing right there,” said Parker. “Didn’t you see him?”
“No. Because I’m not a damn ninja.”
“As you can see, I’m fine,” said Eliot. “You can both go back inside.”
Hardison frowned. “Not until we talk, man. You kinda ran out on us earlier.”
“There’s a reason for that.”
“And that’s what we need to talk about. Now, I realize that Parker could have explained things maybe a little clearer-”
“We want to have sex with him,” said Parker. “How is that not clear?”
“It was pretty clear,” drawled Eliot.
She frowned, then moved to stand directly in front of him, squinting slightly as she stared. Eliot stared right back, until Parker suddenly pulled back and socked him in the shoulder.
“Parker!” cried Hardison.
She glared. “He deserved it. He thinks we just want to have sex with him!”
“That is literally what you just said,” growled Eliot, rubbing his arm - Parker could really throw a punch.
“No, Parker never said ‘just’,” said Hardison, realization in his voice. “That’s what we were trying to explain - we’re gonna have to work on your seduction skills, mama.”
“I didn’t think I needed them for Eliot,” she protested. “He’s Eliot.”
Hardison sighed. “Look, man, I’m just going to spell it out - we want to have sex with you, yeah, but we don’t want to just have sex with you.”
“You two are dating,” Eliot said slowly, like they were being clueless on purpose. “Each other.”
“That doesn’t mean we don’t want you to-”
“Dammit, Hardison, I’m not going to keep being your third wheel.”
“But we’re a tricycle,” said Parker, and both men turned to blink at her.
“I love Hardison,” she continued, and he grinned, “And I didn’t understand what a relationship really is. So it took us a while to realize that something was still missing. We were like one of those things with two wheels that go slow and look stupid.”
Hardison frowned. “A… Segway?”
“Yes. That. We need a third wheel, Eliot. We need you.”
He wanted to believe her. Parker and Hardison were the two people he loved most in the world, and when they had gotten together, he’d been happy for them. But there was also been a not-insignificant amount of jealousy, which he hadn’t felt at all when Nate and Sophie had started hooking up.
Eliot sighed. “People don’t do that, Parker,” he said. “You can’t love two people like that.”
“Don’t you tell me who I can love!” she snapped, thumping his shoulder again. “You were the one who taught me how to need people, don’t you dare tell me I can’t.”
Eliot held up his hands, in case she tried to hit him again. “I didn’t mean it like that. I meant… you could marry Hardison, have kids together. You can’t have a husband and a boyfriend.”
“Then what about me?” demanded Hardison. “Can’t I have a wife and a boyfriend?”
“No,” said Eliot, “That’s what I’m saying.”
Hardison scowled. “You still aren’t getting it. I love you, Eliot. We love you. This isn’t a fling or a kink or a phase. It’s real.”
“Hardison…”
“I want a life with both of you,” he said. “Sex, yeah, but just life. Living together and sleeping together and getting on each other’s nerves. I want to hold you when you get hurt and get you to cook for us and just… be together.”
Parker took Eliot’s hand. “If you don’t want us, that’s okay. But if you do, the only thing keeping you from having us is you.”
Eliot drew in a shaky breath. “I…” he began. “I do want you. Both of you. But-”
He broke off as Hardison kissed him, long and deep. As he took a step back, Eliot barely had time to breathe before Parker had taken his place, kissing Eliot just as fiercely.
“Then you have us,” she said, grinning.
His breath was still shaky. “It’s not that simple.”
“Maybe not,” Hardison agreed. “But we can make it work.”
“Yeah,” said Eliot. “Yeah, we can.”
