Gryff really was the base librarian.. She had the power to issue library cards, collect fines, and give lectures on Why We Do Not Take Interlibrary Loan Books Off-World.
And after she had been a secretary in warzone-adjacent places, it didn’t seem odd for her to now head a team that regularly went on ‘administrative and diplomatic’ missions that put them out of touch for days or weeks at a time.
It was dangerous, Gryff was honest with her parents about that.
Someday, she’d be able to tell them about the aliens, too.
