Dean woke slowly, like surfacing from a deep pond. He was warm, relaxed and content down to his bones. After a moment, he registered movement, a gentle rise and fall beneath his head, and the soft glide of familiar fingers through his hair.
“…Cas?” he asked, still half-asleep.
“Good morning, Dean,” the angel replied.
“Time ‘sit?”
“Early,” said Cas. “Were you sleeping well?”
“Yeah. You chasin’ away my nightmares?”
“Always. Go back to sleep, I’ll watch over you.”
“Still creepy,” Dean muttered.
He could feel the rumble of Cas’s laugh, “Sleep, beloved,” and was asleep again before he could argue.
