Long Odds

As much as Han hated when people told him the odds, he was pretty good at working them out for himself.

It was just that he didn’t let long odds stop him from trying something - and more often than not, he’d just gotten lucky.

But the odds of this, of an orphaned scoundrel like him waking up beside a Jedi princess, who wasn’t just there for one night but who had married him, had given birth to his children, and when she’d finally decided to retire, to really be selfish for a change, she’d chosen him and his battered old freighter…

Those odds were probably beyond astronomical.

And yet, here she was, asleep beside him in the bunk of the Falcon’s main cabin.

Leia gave a little hitched breath and blinked up at him. “What are you thinking about so loudly?” she grumbled.

“You,” he said. “Us. The odds of a guy like me ending up with a princess in my bed.”

“Hmm,” said Leia, then smirked. “You know, when I was younger, one of my aunts always told me that if I wasn’t careful, I’d end up in a scoundrel’s bed. If I’d known it would be yours, I’d have been a little more reckless.”

“I don’t see how that’s possible,” said Han, but he was smiling. “And does that make me the reward for bad behavior, Your Worshipfullness?”

“Maybe you are,” she said. “What are you going to do about it?”

Han grinned, moving one hand beside her shoulder, bracing himself above her. “Oh, I’ve got a few-”

There was a knock on the cabin door. “Grandma!” called Allana’s small voice. “Grandpa! Are you gonna sleep all day!?”

“That kid…” Han grumbled, but his wife just laughed.

“Family comes first, flyboy,” she said, then leaned up to kiss him and wiggled off the bed. “Come on.”

“Try this later?” he asked, hopefully, looking for his pants.

Leia kissed him again, already fully dressed. “That’s a promise.”
