Day Twenty-Five: A pairing that was/would be adorable but could never work out?
Tosh Sato/Owen Harper from Torchwood
Adorable, but doomed. Tosh is Torchwood's computer expert, Owen is their medical officer. She's shy and sweet, he's a self-proclaimed 'twat' (that's 'ass' to us Yanks). Tosh has the cutest crush on Owen, pretty much for the entire show, but Owen either has no idea or doesn't care. But it's the second season that really gets adorable-but-doomed. Owen is dead through the last half of it (he's still walking and talking- c'mon, this is Torchwood) and it's Tosh who tries to convince him to live as much as he can. And in the very end, even if they're not physically together, they have each other- Tosh is bleeding from a gunshot while Owen is about to meltdown in a nuclear reactor, but until the last moment, they're talking on the comlink. Owen is freaking out because he can't stop the meltdown, but he calms because Tosh asks him to. And Tosh doesn't tell him that she's been shot, because she knows there's nothing he can do. That scene almost went under 'most heartbreaking', but I think they fall under 'would never work out'. Tosh is too insecure to rein in Owen's crassness, and they'd never make if for long. But for a little while they were great together.
