Buri smiled. “Because you didn’t. Oh, you cared,” she added, at his crestfallen expression. “We were always friends. Some love needs time to grow.”
“It seems like it took us an awfully long time.”
“We were both busy people,” she said. “My focus was on Thayet, then the Riders. You had the King’s Own. We weren’t ready for romance.”
“You make it sound so practical,” laughed Raoul.
“We’re neither of us romantics, love.”
He took her hand, “Speak for yourself,” and pulled Buri in for a long kiss.
