Just reading the Amazon reviews for Surfacing (Margaret Atwood's second novel, and the one I'm currently trying to get my hands on, though it's been out of stock at my local B&N for months now).  The main complaint is that some people picked it up who are entirely unfamiliar with Atwood or with dense literature, and were quite disappointed by it.  I guess the blurb on the back made it seem like something entirely different from what it actually was.  It's advertised as "part mystery, part thriller" when its really more of a stream-of-consciousness, metaphorical mess.

So, I realized that had been a big complaint of mine about The Edible Woman as well.  I honestly have to wonder if the people who write the blurbs even read the books.  How do you get that kind of job?  I want that job - that would be easy and I would be so good at it!
