Dontchu Worry 'Bout Me

Hey dudes and dudettes. Here's some stuff that's been on my mind. Marching band has been going very well. We finished the week strong and we seem to be gaining a grasp of the show. The trumpet section is accelling beyond all others with our awesome matching hats (which you will probably spot me sporting sometime soon) and our general good work. I do have some bad news though. If you haven't heard yet, Pluto is no longer a planet. In other words my entire childhood has been a lie. Every book I read, every show I saw, every teacher I had told me there were nine planets. What are they going to do, cut out the last 2 minutes of every Magic Schoolbus cartoon where the kids fly through space past Pluto, the last planet. Sure its still there, and sure by this new rule we can include more "mini" planets in our solar system, but Pluto meant something to me. They wouldn't name Mickey's lovable dog after a measley "Dwarf Planet". 9 was such a cool number, but with 8, why should I even try. I guess life will go on and this can't compare to any real catastrophic event, but it seems like a bad idea. Lastly, I would like to say "Thumbs Down!" to Peter Travers. He essentially the sole movie reviewer for Rolling Stone. If you look on the movie ads page of your paper any day of the year, you will most likely be able to find a quote from Peter Travers. Usually he is a good guy. He watches movies and gives me a pretty good idea of not only what its about, but if its even worth seeing. Some of his best work includes a "Zero Star" rating of Dukes of Hazzard as well as deep appreciation for box office blockbusters such as the visually stunning King Kong. Lately he has been an ignorant douche. That may be a little harsh, but he has perturbed me. He didn't write a review of Snakes on a Plane in the last issue because it wasn't released for critics, but he couldn't resist a little blurb trash talking the absurb idea and dismissing it off as a scam to take people's money. He literally said that by not releasing it to critics first, the creators of Snakes were trying to "trick" people into seeing Snakes. He also gave Ricky Bobby a bad review as well as turning up his nose at the Outcast movie Ildewilde. While I have yet to see this one, I have reason to believe hes wrong. I bought the new CD which got a rave musical review in RS, and wanna see it. He will most likely smarten up again its just a phase. But all in all, I still respect him for great journalism and the balls to give movies bad reviews if he thinks it so. Anyway, that entry was far longer than I expected. Writing is fun, I can't wait for my music blog.
